Kombucha Basics

Q1. What is Bazzinga Brew Kombucha?

Ans: Bazzinga Brew kombucha is a probiotic cultured beverage made by fermenting green/black tea and unrefined cane sugar with a Kombucha culture called a SCOBY (symbiotic culture of bacteria & yeast). It’s a natural alternative to traditional fizzy drinks but generally has much less sugar. Packed with probiotics and antioxidants, kombucha is a sparkling probiotic tea that's good

for your gut!

•It is a traditional source of good bacteria that has existed for 2000 Years.

•It has probiotics that make up for the imbalances in our diet, making our gut healthy and strong.

•Extraordinary health benefits.

•The fastest growing health beverage in the USA, Canada, Australia

Q2. What does kombucha taste like?

Ans: When kombucha hits your tongue, you will notice a slight tingle on your tongue (due to the fermentation process). You then get a slightly tangy, tart finish that wakes up your tastebuds. The tanginess is then delicately balanced by the sweetness of the fruits, the softness of herbs, and the richness of spices.

Q3. How is Bazzinga Brew kombucha made?

Ans: We focus on real ingredients and use traditional fermentation methods. And then we get creative by adding herbs, spices and fruit to make our fun, bold flavours!

Q4. What is the jelly or floaters in the bottle?

Ans: That is live culture and very good for your gut! It means your kombucha is alive and full of beneficial live bacteria.

During the fermentation process and even after bottling, the good bacteria continue to flourish and produces a by-product of the fermentation. These jelly-like floaters are completely harmless and can be consumed or discarded.

Q5. Is Bazzinga Brew kombucha halal?

Ans: Yes, all Bazzinga Brew products are halal. The alcohol content of the kombucha is usually less than 1%. This very small amount of alcohol is not sufficient to categorise the product as an alcoholic. Accordingly, the alcohol that naturally emerges in kombucha will not intoxicate the drinker. It is not objectionable to produce, sell or drink it. (Source)

Q6. Is Bazzinga Brew Kombucha organic? How about non-GMO? Gluten-Free?

Ans: Yes! All of our products are organic, including our kombucha. They are also non-GMO, vegan and gluten-free.

Ingredients

Q1. What are the main ingredients in kombucha?

Ans: Kombucha starts as a tea sweetened with cane sugar, which is then fermented with the help of a SCOBY (good bacteria and yeast). Natural flavours are then added, such as fruits, herbs and spices.

Q2. Do your kombuchas contain alcohol?

Ans: The alcohol content of the kombucha is usually less than 1% but increases with fermentation time. This very small amount of alcohol is not sufficient to categorise the product as an alcoholic.

Alcohol naturally emerges in vinegar, grape juice, pickle, boza, bread and other fermented bakery products due to fermentation.

In bread, alcohol on the crust evaporates by heat. However, a significant amount of alcohol remains in bread. In these products alcohol rate is usually 2-3%.

At the same time, natural products such as orange, lemon, mint contain 2-3% alcohol.

However, none of them intoxicates.

Q3. Do you use sugar?

Ans: Yes, we use organic cane sugar as the natural fuel source for the SCOBY and to aid in the flavour profile. As with any fermentation process, sugar is necessary to feed the yeast. And much of the sugar is consumed in the brewing process so you are left with a full-flavoured drink that is as healthy as it is refreshing.

Q4. Does it contain caffeine?

Ans: We do not add any caffeine to our kombucha, however, there is a small amount of naturally-occurring caffeine that comes from the black tea.

Q5. Is juice added to Bazzinga Brew Kombucha?

Ans: We add our very own organic, natural juice to create unique, delicious flavour blends. We never use concentrates.

Q2. What are the health benefits of kombucha?

Ans: Kombucha has been called the “elixir of life” for a reason, as people have experienced firsthand its healthful properties. Here’s what consumers say when asked how kombucha makes them feel:

Ans: Yes! Kombucha is packed with beneficial bacteria and health-boosting enzymes that naturally help in detoxification.

We use only high-quality green tea in our Kombucha. This is because green tea contains many bioactive components, such as polyphenols which acts as a powerful antioxidant in the body.

Safety and Precautions

Q1. Who can drink Kombucha?

Ans: Kombucha is safe to be enjoyed by anyone and every one, however, remember that young ones have smaller bodies so we recommend their servings are also small as well and diluted with water.

If you have a specific medical or health-related concern, kindly seek your doctor’s advice.

Q2. How much should I drink daily? Is it safe to drink more than one bottle?

Ans: There is no limit to the amount of kombucha that you can drink daily. Because of the safety precautions we put in place before the bottle leaves our hands, we can ensure that your drink is safe and alcohol-free.

Many of our customers love to switch up their kombuchas daily, trying different flavours. Get creative and adventurous!

Trust YOUR gut! Listen to your body and drink the amount that feels good for you.

If you are pregnant, nursing, or have health issues that require special dietary restrictions, please consult your doctor.

Q3. Can I drink kombucha on an empty stomach?

Ans: Yes! Most nutritionists recommend drinking Kombucha before meals for optimal digestive benefits. And since sour and acidic food usually curbs your appetite, this can also help with the maintenance of weight or even weight loss, too.

Q4. Is kombucha safe while pregnant?

Ans: While kombucha may be perfectly safe to drink, we think it’s a good idea to avoid it until after you deliver. You need to discuss your concerns with your doctor before you make any decision.

Don’t worry! We’ll save some bottles for you to enjoy post-delivery.

Q5. Is kombucha safe for children?

Ans: Kids love kombucha. It’s fizzy, tart, sweet and different!

We’d like you to consider two things. First, kombucha contains less than 1% naturally-occurring alcohol, as a byproduct of fermentation. Second, there’s a small amount of caffeine from the black tea.

It’s up to you as the parent to decide if the amount of alcohol and caffeine in kombucha is safe for your kids.

Storage

Q1. Why glass bottles?

Ans: We are trying our best to avoid plastic, which means glass is the obvious choice. Glass is easier to recycle than plastic and more importantly, no harmful chemicals from the plastic can leach into your products. Glass is also the most effective vessel for retaining carbonation.

Q2. Should I shake up the kombucha?

Ans: No. Bazinga Brew Kombucha is naturally carbonated, so we do not recommend shaking the bottle. If shaken, an overflow can occur due to the natural effervescence. Instead, gently tilt the bottle upside down or back and forth until the sediment is mixed.

Q3. Do I need to refrigerate Bazzinga Brew kombucha?

Ans: Yes! Always keep your Kombucha in the refrigerator and consume it chilled.

Also, Kombucha bottles should always be stored upright and never on their side.

Q4. How long does Bazzinga Brew kombucha lasts once opened?

Ans: We recommend you consume within 5 days of opening, as with most food and drink it tastes better when fresh. Once opened, the kombucha will start to lose its fizz.

Q5. Can I drink the kombucha after its expiration date?

Ans: We recommend you consume within 5 days of opening, as with most food and drink it tastes better when fresh. Once opened, the kombucha will start to lose its fizz. Kombucha is a living food, therefore slow fermentation continues, making the product tangier over time. If unopened and refrigerated, it won’t go bad several weeks past its expiration date, but the taste changes over time.

Q6. How can I tell if the kombucha has gone bad?

Ans: The thing to remember is that the fermentation of kombucha never stops. Any floaties and strands are living cultures, and their presence is perfectly normal.

If there aren’t any obvious signs of spoilage, like mould or off odour, feel free to take a sip to check its taste. If it’s overly tart and almost vinegar-like, you probably won’t want to drink it.

Q7. What shall I do with kombucha past the expiration date?

Ans: If the label on the bottle says your kombucha is a past expiration date, don’t throw it away!

You can use the kombucha as regular vinegar, like in salad dressings or homemade kombucha mayonnaise. Some even use it as a facial toner.
